“BSBF visits Croatia”, hosted by the University of Zagreb, took place on 13 June and was co-organised by the Italian Embassy in Croatia, the CEI Secretariat and the Region Friuli Venezia Giulia. Opened by H.E.

From 10 to 14 June 2024, 15 officials from public administrations of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Montenegro joined the training of trainers organised in the framework of the project TRUE BLUE - CEI support to Training and Research to Unlock and Enhance the potential of sustainable BLUE Economy for regional cooperation and EU integration.
The XII Edition of the International Spring School in Clinical Engineering, themed "IoT, Economic and Management Challenges for e-Health Integration in the Enlarged Europe”, was held on 20-23  May 2024, at the University of Trieste.

The Committee of National Coordinators (CNC) of the CEI Member States convened in Trieste on 4 June 2024 for their second meeting under the Albanian Presidency. The agenda included discussions on CEI key institutional activities, administrative matters and project management.

The CEI-Executive Secretariat (CEI-ES) recently concluded (Viareggio, 30 May 2024) its role as an observer at the “Ramogepol 2024 Versiliana,” the recent exercise at sea and on shore conducted within the framework of the Ramoge agreement.

 

The CEI-Executive Secretariat (CEI-ES), represented by Deputy Secretary General Zsuzsanna Kiraly, recently participated in the conference "THE UNDECLARED: Political, Economic, and Sustainable Future of the Western Balkans," held in Skopje (North Macedonia) on 27-29 May 2024.
 

The programme of this year’s Beldocs International Documentary Film Festival, held in Belgrade and in other cities in Serbia from 22 to 29 May 2024, included a series of workshops, masterclasses, pitching sessions, and other activities aimed at developing new films and promoting networking opportunities among film experts.

Territorial and cross-border cooperation, focusing on the Italy-Slovenia experience, was the main objective of a two-day study visit held in Trieste and Gorizia on 28-29 May.

This innovative training programme, designed specifically for young female entrepreneurs, took place under the auspices of the Original platform, an initiative aimed at fostering entrepreneurial spirit and skills among young people, especially women.

An international conference on palliative care, themed "Overcoming Barriers and Borders in Palliative Care: 100 Units of Opportunities," was held in Trieste on 24-25 May, 2024.

The GreenPATH project (Green mobility solutions for Pioneering Actions Towards a Healthy and sustainable commuting), led by the Institute for Transport and Logistics (ITL, Italy), was officially   launched in Bologna on 22-23 May.

The 12th European Remembrance Symposium, titled "Commemorating and Narrating Freedom," took place in Warsaw on 21-24 May, 2024 gathering over 200 representatives from memory institutions worldwide.

The International Conference: “Nature Based Solutions in protected areas to tackle biodiversity loss & increase climate resilience-NATUREBES" was held in Demir Kapija, North Macedonia on 17-19 May 2024.

On 15-16 May 2024 the CEI-Executive Secretariat participated in the  9th EUSAIR forum “Shaping the future of EUSAIR “ organised under the Croatian Presidency of the EU Strategy for the Adriatic and Ionian Region, in Šibenik.

The International Conference on the Future of Cycling in Albania was held in Tirana on 4 May 2024.

The fifth event of the promotional roadshow of the “Big Science Business Forum” (BSBF) – a joint effort of the CEI-Executive Secretariat, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Autonomous Region Friuli Venezia Giulia and the BSBF organising committee - was held in Budapest on 7 May 2024.

A year ago, ICTP set up the 'CEI-ICTP Researchers' Mobility for Sustainable Development' initiative with CEI to encourage early-career scientists from seven non-EU CEI member states (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Moldova, North Macedonia, Serbia, and Ukraine) in Eastern Europe and the Western Balkans to participate in ICTP's Training and Research in Italian Laboratories (TRIL) programme. The initiative’s first round saw four fellows spending time immersed in an international research environment in selected Italian labs before returning to their home institutions.

The 11th CEI Venice Forum for Contemporary Art Curators, organised by the Trieste Contemporanea Committee, took place at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice on 19 April 2024 during the pre-opening days of the Venice Biennale.

On the occasion of the second meeting of the “Convention for the Strengthening of the Central European Initiative”, high representatives of Parliaments and Governments from all CEI countries resumed their debate, initiated in Trieste, on the further advancement of the Organisation’s main mission - especially considering the major challenges ahead as regards the European integration process.

24 April 2024 marks a historic moment in the promotion of cross-border mobility with the launch of the first direct train service between Villa Opicina and Rijeka after over 50 years.
