The CEI-Executive Secretariat participated in the 25th Anniversary Celebration of the Adriatic and Ionian Initiative (AII), held on 27 June 2025 in Ancona, Italy, an important milestone in advancing regional cooperation across the Adriatic-Ionian Region.
The CEI, together with the Department of Political and Social Sciences at the University of Trieste, has officially assumed the chairmanship of the EU Science Diplomacy Alliance (EUSDA) for the 2025–2026 term. This follows the successful 2024–2025 term led by AVRIST (Association pour la Valorisation des Relations Internationales Scientifiques et Techniques).
The CEI has recently participated (18 June 2025) in the conference Enhancing Road and Rail Connectivity in the Adriatic-Ionian Region in Portoroz, Slovenia organised by the Forum of the Adriatic and Ionian Chambers of Commerce.
The CEI has recently participated (15 June 2025) in theAnnual Meeting of the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC), held in Tirana under the Chairmanship-in-Office of Albania within the framework of the South-East European Cooperation Process (SEECP).
On 13 June, the CEI - Executive Secretariat had the honour of hosting Minister Plenipotentiary Nicola Verola, Director General for Europe and International Trade Policy at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, for an institutional visit.
On 3 June, the CEI-Executive Secretariat hosted a conference titled "The European Union’s Future in the New World Order," which was jointly organised with the Hungarian Diplomatic Academy and the Central European Lawyers Initiative.
On 22 May 2025 H.E. Karla Wursterová, Ambassador of the Slovak Republic to Italy, paid an official visit to the CEI - Executive Secretariat. The Honorary Consul of Slovakia, Luca Davide Farina, was also present.
The CEI-Executive Secretariat and the Regional Anti-Corruption Initiative (RAI) Secretariat and have signed a new two-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the period 2025-2027, reaffirming the commitment of both parties to regional cooperation and the fight against corruption.
The CEI - Executive Secretariat took part in the Italy-Croatia Business Forum held in Zagreb, on 6 May 2025 attended by Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Antonio Tajani; Croatian Minister of Economy Ante Šušnjar and Croatian Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Gordan Grlić-Radman.
During an online institutional exchange on 10 april 2025, between the CEI Secretary General. On. Franco Dal Mas and WHO Regional Director for Europe, Dr Hans Henri P. Kluge, both parties reaffirmed their strong partnership, underscoring the importance of continued collaboration to promote health and well-being through regional cooperation.
The CEI - Executive Secretariat (CEI-ES) has supported once again this year's OberMUN titled "Diplomacy: Our path to peace". It is the Model United Nations simulation (MUN) that is annually organised by the Trieste-based high school Liceo Scientifico “Guglielmo Oberdan” involving students from various countries.
On 25 and 26 March 2025, the CEI-Executive Secretariat (CEI-ES) attended the “Global Ministerial Dialogue on Science Diplomacy”, in Paris at the Headquarters of UNESCO. The programme envisaged a multistakeholder high-level conference and a global ministerial segment.
On 21 March 2025, the CEI-Executive Secretariat participated in the workshop the “Role of Science Diplomacy in Water Supplies”, held in Venice in the framework of the UN World Water Day and the World Day for Glaciers.
On 10 January, the CEI - Executive Secretariat kicked-off the year, with the new Secretary General, Franco Dal Mas, and the Italian National Coordinator, Ambassador, Sem Fabrizi.
On 6 December 2024 the UN General Assembly, recalling its resolution 66/111 of 9 December 2011 by which it granted observer status to the CEI, adopted the Resolution on Cooperation between the United Nations and the Central European Initiative by a recorded vote of 114 in favour, 10 against with 26 abstentions.
Upon invitation by the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC) Secretariat, the CEI-Executive Secretariat attended the Sixth Meeting of the SEE 2030 Strategy Monitoring Committee, held in Belgrade on 5 December 2024, and presented the CEI activities in relation to the UN 2030 Agenda and the SDGs.
The 1st Regional Workshop on the UPSHIFT Programme was organised by the CEI in collaboration with UNICEF on 29 November 2024, gathering UNICEF experts and government representatives from CEI Member States at the Organisation's Headquarters in Trieste.
On 27 November in Udine the CEI- Executive Secretariat took part in the “ResiliEnhance Platform 2024 Meeting” gathering experts and stakeholders from Central and Eastern Europe at the International Centre for Mechanical Sciences (CISM) in Udine.
