On 3 December, the Round Table under the title "A supporting Europe: judicial and security cooperation" was held at the CEI HQ in Trieste. The event was a chance to reflect upon cooperation in judicial and criminal matters within the EU framework established by the Lisbon Treaty, as well as on possible cross-border and transnational collaborations, to be explored also with the CEI’s support.
On 27 November, the Mayor of Trieste, Roberto Dipiazza, conferred the Sigillo Trecentesco del Comune di Trieste on Ambassador Giovanni Caracciolo di Vietri, former CEI Secretary General from 2013 to 2018.
On Monday 14 October, the Governor of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region (FVG), Massimiliano Fedriga, paid a visit to the CEI Executive Secretariat (CEI-ES) hosted by SG Antonione together with his team.
The CEI’s annual Steering Committee (SC) meeting and CEI Committee of National Coordinators (CNC) meeting under the Italian CEI Presidency, took place on 10 April at the Headquarters of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in London.
Contemporary art curators and science communication experts from Central and Eastern Europe gathered, on Friday 15 March, at the ESOF2020 Headquarters (Sottostazione Elettrica) and at the CEI Headquarters, to discuss how to build bridges between the “two cultures”. The initiative is based on the close cooperation between the CEI, Fondazione Internazionale Trieste and Trieste Contemporanea.

On 12 September 2018, the CEI-Executive Secretariat signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Regional Rural Development Standing Working Group (SWG) of South-Eastern Europe aimed at promoting effective regional cooperation in the field of agriculture and rural development.

Vladimir Makei, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, holding the current CEI Presidency, hosted for his counterparts a Working Lunch in New York on 21 September, on the margins of the UN General Assembly.

At the same time, regional cooperation proved helpful to mitigate the emergence of potential dividing lines between countries in and out the EU, in and out NATO, in and out the Macro-Regional Strategies established since 2008.
Under the title “The Western Balkans in the European Union: Perspectives of a region in Europe?”, the 2nd edition of the Reflection Forum was held in Trieste on 26-27 June, gathering experts working in national and European administrations and institutions, researchers affiliated with European think-tanks and universities from 25 EU and Western Balkan countries.
The Austrian Chairmanship of the OSCE and the Belarusian CEI Presidency organised the OSCE-CEI High-Level Panel Discussion “Beyond the emergency: improving the international response to large movements of people” in Vienna on 9 June.
Christoph Leitl, President of the Austrian Chamber of Commerce, accompanied by a delegation of about 60 prominent businesspersons from Austria, visited the CEI Headquarters on 23 May.
The delegation was welcomed by Amb. Margot Klestil-Loeffler, CEI Alternate Secretary General, who illustrated the mandate and mission of the Organisation, of which together with Italy, Hungary and the former Yugoslavia, Austria is a founding member.

CEI Alternate Secretary General, Ambassador Margot Klestil-Loffler, and Deputy Secretary General, Counsellor Erik Csernovitz visited Sarajevo on 4 – 5 April 2016, in the framework of BiH CEI Presidency. They had a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Igor Crnadak, and the CEI National Coordinator of BiH, Ambassador Miloš Prica, in order to discuss the priorities and upcoming events of the Presidency.
