Opening of EU Accession talks with Ukraine and Moldova highlights value of regional cooperation, says Dal Mas

“Enlargement is not merely an institutional process; it is the completion of the European project. The formal opening of accession negotiations with the European Union for Ukraine and Moldova, both member countries of the Central European Initiative (CEI), represents a significant step in this direction.

This is an important milestone that confirms how regional cooperation can make a tangible contribution to the European integration process by fostering dialogue, supporting reforms, and strengthening institutional capacities.

As repeatedly underlined by Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, enlargement represents the completion of Europe’s reunification. The launch of negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova is, therefore, a concrete sign of progress towards this common objective.

The CEI renews its commitment to supporting its Member States on their path towards the European Union and to contributing, through regional cooperation, to the development of an increasingly united, stable, and prosperous continent. In this context, it is essential to maintain strong attention also on the European path of the Western Balkan countries, whose progress remains fundamental for the stability, security, and prosperity of the entire continent.”
