24 April 2024 marks a historic moment in the promotion of cross-border mobility with the launch of the first direct train service between Villa Opicina and Rijeka after over 50 years.

Over two insightful days (18-19 April), Trieste became the focal point for vital discussions as high-level representatives from health ministries and the healthcare sector of CEI Member States, WHO, EU and other international experts gathered for the WHO/CEI Policy Dialogue titled "Building resilient pharmaceutical and health product systems", organised jointly by the CEI, the World Health Organization Regional Office for Europe (WHO/Europe), and the European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies.
After successful stops in Belgrade, Bratislava and Prague, the “BSBF promotional roadshow in CEI Member States” – jointly organised by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the CEI-Executive Secretariat, the Autonomous Region Friuli Venezia Giulia and the BSBF organising committee – visited Warsaw on 16 April, 2024.
The CEI - Executive Secretariat (CEI-ES) has supported once again this year's OberMUN titled "Touching lives together". It is the Model United Nations simulation (MUN) that is annually organised by the Trieste-based high school Liceo Scientifico “Guglielmo Oberdan” involving students from various countries.
The international Conference Equal Pay Day, held in Prague on 11-12 April 2024, brought together around 800 participants, 40 speakers, 80 mentors and 2000 mentees from 16 countries.

The TREASURE – Testing novel environmental quality measures in and around Euro-MED ports – project, aimed at enhancing environmental quality in Mediterranean port areas, successfully launched with a kick-off meeting held in Livorno on 3-4 April, 2024.

The official launch of the Regional Inclusive Biobased Entrepreneurship Solutions (RIBES) project under Horizon Europe was held at the CEI headquarters in Trieste on 21 March.

The CEI-Executive Secretariat is glad to share the exciting outcomes of the recently concluded mid-term meeting of the BIOLOC project (Biobased and social innovation to revitalise European local communities), which took place in Trieste on 20 March 2024.

The second and third event of the “BSBF promotional roadshow in CEI Member States” were held in Bratislava and Prague, following the successful kick-off in Belgrade.
The Joint Statement stresses the commitment of the CEI to sustainable development, one of the strategic goals of the Organisation. It sets the framework for the past and future activities of the CEI, building upon its Observer Status at the UN General Assembly; the biannual resolutions on cooperation between the UN and the CEI, as well as its strategic documents guiding the work of the Organisation, such as the CEI Plan of Action.

The CEI - Executive Secretariat actively participated in the Italian Balkan Trade Summit, organised online by FederCamere on 12-13 March.

A recent initiative supported under the CEI Cooperation Fund in 2023 called "PLAYSERIOUSLY",  has not only generated an innovative psychoeducational video game through a hackathon organised for that purpose, but it also inspired an innovative book titled " Play seriously. The Trasformative Power of Video Games". This significant achievement dives deep into the intricate relationship between media, communication, and culture.

The 1st Committee of National Coordinators Meeting under the Albanian CEI Presidency 2024 at the CEI headquarters in Trieste on 29 February, unveiled a comprehensive agenda of the Presidency aimed at advancing regional cooperation and sustainable development across various sectors.

On 27 February, the partners of the CEI Know-how Exchange Programme (KEP) project titled “Assessing the effectiveness and affordability of tariff-setting methodologies in covering drinking water and wastewater services costs in the Western Balkans” gathered in Brussels to present the results achieved in the framework of this capacity building action.
The Italian Embassy in Serbia hosted the inaugural day of the roadshow aimed at promoting the Big Science Business Forum 2024 (BSBF) in Central, Eastern and South-Eastern Europe.

On 27 February, the CEI Headquarters promoted digital health literacy through a local event for which stakeholders converged to hear about the achievements of the IDEAHL project – Improving Digital Empowerment for Active Healthy Living.

Representatives from Italy, Croatia and Slovenia gathered on 20 February at the CEI Headquarters for the final conference of the project North Adriatic Maritime Incident Response System (NAMIRS).

On 12 February 2024, in a strong appeal for unity and cooperation, CEI Secretary General Roberto Antonione, introduced and moderated the 1st meeting of the Convention for the Strengthening of the Central European Initiative in Trieste.

On 31 January, CEI Secretary General, Roberto Antonione and CEI Deputy Secretary General, Nina Kodelja (Slovenia) welcomed a visit from Gregor Šuc, Consul General of Slovenia.
