Fostering health cooperation as a pillar of regional development and social wellbeing at 48th SEE Health Network Plenary in Sofia

The CEI participated in the 48th Plenary Meeting of the South-Eastern Europe Health Network (SEEHN), held in Sofia, Bulgaria on 17–18 June 2025. The event focused on Health Promotion and Disease Prevention, bringing together national health coordinators, directors of regional centres, and representatives from international organisations including EuroHealthNet, UNICEF, and RCC.

CEI’s participation reaffirms its commitment to strengthening regional cooperation in public health, supporting dialogue and knowledge exchange to improve healthcare systems and reduce inequalities across its Member States.

The meeting highlighted the need for stronger cross-sectoral collaboration to build resilient, inclusive health systems and promote healthier lifestyles. Best practices in prevention - such as immunisation campaigns and intersectoral cooperation - were shared, while persistent challenges underscored the importance of continued joint action.

The event was opened by Bulgarian Minister of Health, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Silvi Kirilov, who stressed the value of regional partnerships. Dr. Tatiana Paduraru, Acting Head of the SEEHN Secretariat, chaired the meeting and was later elected Head of the Secretariat.
She emphasised that working together is not optional but essential to protect populations, especially vulnerable groups.

A highlight of the meeting was the presentation of the inaugural Dr. Alexandre Berlin Prize to Dr. Maria Ruseva, recognising her strong engagement in prevention efforts. The prize will be awarded annually to promote solidarity, equity, and excellence in public health.

CEI remains committed to fostering health cooperation as a pillar of regional development and social wellbeing.
