CEI achieves Observer Status at Council of Europe Youth Committees

The CEI has recently achieved a significant milestone by being granted observer status at the intergovernmental committees of the Council of Europe’s Youth Department. This status allows the CEI to participate in the European Steering Committee for Youth and the Joint Council of Youth, which together include representatives from the Youth Ministries of 48 countries as well as NGOs and youth networks, fostering cooperation in the youth sector across Europe.

The European Steering Committee for Youth plays a pivotal role in enhancing collaboration between governments, providing a platform for comparing national youth policies, exchanging best practices, and drafting essential standard-setting texts. Meanwhile, the Joint Council serves as the supreme decision-making body, guiding both governmental and non-governmental partners in setting priorities and budgets for youth initiatives.

The CEI’s involvement is expected to bolster cooperation among its Member States, particularly with those who have been designated as CEI Youth Reference Points. This newly acquired status arrives just in time for upcoming meetings later this month in Strasbourg, where the CEI hopes to strengthen dialogue and coordination in the youth sector.
