This year’s CEI Meeting of the Ministers for Foreign Affairs entitled “The Mission of the CEI on the Eve of its 25th Anniversary”, was held under the Hungarian Presidency on 31 October in Gödöllő (Hungary). Chaired by Mr. János Martonyi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Hungary, it was attended by his colleagues from nine countries, i.e. Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, Slovakia and Slovenia.
Exchange of information and good practices on sustainable mobility in tourism areas was on top of the agenda of the 'Seemore Central European Transfer Seminar', on 24 October 2013 at the CEI headquarters in Trieste.

Local and regional authorities in charge of tourism and mobility attended the seminar, from 12 touristic areas in six European countries: Trieste, Grado and Lignano in Italy; Porec, Pula and Dubrovnik in Croatia; Koper and Bled in Slovenia; the Balaton region in Hungary; the Belgrade region in Serbia; Kotor in Montenegro.

''Sustainable Energy Development in South East Europe'', was the title of the conference held on 18 October 2013 in Belgrade and organised by Business Info Group under the auspices of the Serbian Ministry of Energy , Development and Environmental Protection.  

On 17 October, 2013 Serbian Minister for Education, Science and Technological Development, Tomislav Jovanović, and his Assistant Minister, Radomir Žikić, met in Belgrade with Mr. Giorgio Rosso Cicogna, Special Advisor to CEI Secretary General.

Discussions focused on the activities of the Central European Initiative and on Serbia’s position with regard to regional cooperation in the field of Science and Technology, especially in view of the upcoming Meeting of the CEI Ministers for Science and Technology, on 29  October in Trieste.

The Central European Initiative, together with the Albanian hosting partner the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, co-organised the 2nd ACROSSEE Steering Committee Meeting in Tirana, Albania on 1-2 October 2013. A great part of the project partnership, among which representatives of Ministries of Transport of SEE, universities, chambers of commerce, rail operators, regional administrations and research institutes participated in the event.
 
Within the 19th edition of the CEI International Summer School "Beyond Enlargement. The Wider Europe and the New Neighborhood" held on 2-15 September 2013 in Bertinoro, Forlì (Italy), CEI Secretary General, Ambassador Giovanni Caracciolo di Vietri participated in a workshop on "Managing Diversities. Democratic Challenges for a Plural Society on the Way to a European Citizenship" on 12-13 September.

The CEI Committee of National Coordinators (CNC) gathered - for the fourth time this year - on 10-11 October 2013 in Trieste. The meeting was held back to back with the Stakeholders’ Conference “Connecting Macro-regions and Strengthening Regional Cooperation on the Eve of the New Cohesion Policy of the European Union”  on 11 October 2013.
 
Around 200 participants gathered in Sarajevo on 7-8 October at the VII South East Europe Media Forum (SEEMF), the biggest media event in South East Europe. The Forum was organised by the South East Europe Media Organisation (SEEMO) in cooperation with the Central European Initiative (CEI) and the German political foundation Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS). This year’s event focused on “Journalism in South East Europe: monopolies, business models and the struggle for quality”.
Organised by the Autonomous Region Friuli Venezia Giulia and the Central European Initiative, in cooperation with the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the conference on 11 October 2013 in Trieste, aimed at promoting a high-level exchange of views on the synergies and coordination between the EU macro-regional strategies. Special focus was put on the existing EU Strategy for the Danube Region and the evolving one for the Adriatic-Ionian basin.
 
The Plenary Session of the Parliamentary Dimension of the Central European Initiative was held on 24 and 25 September, 2013 in Budapest at the historic building of the Hungarian Parliament. 

The Meeting was opened by President of the Parliament, Honourable Làszlo Köver and chaired by the President of the Parliamentary Dimension, Richárd Hörcsik.

On 23 September, 2013  in Budapest, several Ministers for Economic Affairs from the CEI Member States, Deputy Ministers and their high-level Representatives held discussions on topical issues regarding global economic difficulties. The gathering aimed at jointly exploring most appropriate efforts for facilitating an economic recovery.

Organised by the Hungarian Presidency of the Central European Initiative, the CEI Business Forum, on 23 September in Budapest, witnessed the participation of over 70 high-level business executives and entrepreneurs and representatives of employer organisations from the 18 CEI Member States.

The CEI and the South East Europe Media Organisation (SEEMO), in special partnership with the German political foundation Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS), have announced the winners of the “CEI SEEMO Award for Outstanding Merits in Investigative Journalism” 2013: the Bosnian-Herzegovinian reporter Mahir Šahinović receives the award in the section “Professional Journalists”, and Bulgarian Rosen Tsvetkov in the section “Young Professional Journalists”. Special Mention to Investigative Reporting Project Italy.

The ANSA New Europe Web Portal was officially presented yesterday, 16 September, in Trieste at the seat of the Autonomous Region Friuli Venezia Giulia with the EC Vice President Viviane Reding, the European Affairs Minister Enzo Moavero Milanesi, CEI Secretary General Ambassador Giovanni Caracciolo di Vietri, the President of the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia Debora Serracchiani, and ANSA editor in chief, Luigi Contu. The event took place in the framework of the final event of the "Citizens' Dialogue" initiative promoted by the European Commission.
A bilateral meeting between the Italian Minister for Foreign Affairs, Emma Bonino and the President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Suma Chakrabarti took place on 9 September in Rome.  Discussions focused on the Bank’s investments in the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean Region, in particular on Egypt, Jordan, Morocco and Tunisia. Both top officials agreed upon the need for the international community to continue in its endeavor of facilitating the path to stable democracies in the region.  
On the occasion of the official opening of the 28th Vilenica International Literary Festival on 11 September 2013 in Koper (Slovenia), the CEI Fellowship for Writers in Residence will be presented to Artem Chapeye from Ukraine.
  The CEI Fellowship winner was selected by the Fellowship Jury composed of Patrizia Vascotto (Italy) as President, Namita Subiotto (Slovenia) as Vice President, Ludwig Hartinger (Austria), Dragica Potocnjak (Slovenia) and Jani Virk (Slovenia):
Investment perspectives in railway connections with Slovenia and Croatia,  transport development, the TEN-T network extension to Croatia, were the topics discussed during the technical meeting on 19 July 2013 at the CEI premises in Trieste.

A meeting of the National Focal Points for Science and Technology of the Central European Initiative took place on 8-10 July 2013 in Trieste. The objective was to provide an in-depth analysis of the CEI pilot projects to promote research and innovation through centers and groups of scientific excellence in the West Balkans, the Danube Region and other CEI countries.

Promoting cross-border territorial development, enhancing access to culture and cultural production, supporting young musicians, overcoming physical, cultural and political barriers: these are the objectives at the core of the first edition of the Cross-border Music Festival ECHOS, which will take place in Italy and Slovenia from 19 July to 12 September 2013.
