The GRETA project (Greening Regional Freight Transport in Functional Urban Areas) successfully brought together experts from the logistics sector and from public authorities to discuss alternatives in the last-mile freight deliveries in urban areas at the event “Decarbonizing last mile deliveries in FUAS” hosted at the Green Logistics Expo in Padua on 9 October - one of Italy’s most valuable forums for discussing sustainable logistics.
The event - conducted by the CEI-Executive Secretariat and its external experts - included two roundtables and the presentation of the study on cargo hitching (based on the utilisation of the unused capacity of public transport to serve the increasing demand for freight deliveries).
Roundtable 1 showcased GRETA’s pilot action in 5 selected cities (Budapest, Maribor, Poznan, Reggio Emilia and Verona) and highlighted possible synergies with other EU projects (as the CEI-led project SUSTANCE - Sustainable public transport solutions and innovative governance schemes for improving connectivity in Central Europe). Roundtable 2 served as a platform for logistics experts and policy makers to share their experiences and views on the innovative model of cargo hitching. The speakers posed particular emphasis on the ongoing initiatives aimed at promoting sustainable transport, and stated that the challenges faced in each region and city were different in size, location and background.
The event served as a valuable opportunity for fostering collaboration and exploring possible synergies with other projects and other stakeholders.
