Humanitarian contribution of CEI to people of Ukraine

In response to the extremely dire and worrying humanitarian emergency in Ukraine, a CEI Member State, the CEI has decided to provide support to the people, affected by the conflict in Ukraine, through a humanitarian contribution of 80,000 EUR to the International Committee of the Red Cross.

The International Committee of the Red Cross has been carrying out its humanitarian work to support the people affected by the conflict in Ukraine since 2014 and has been stepping up its humanitarian operations to aid those in need now living through the extreme dangers of this conflict. Working closely with the Ukrainian Red Cross, the International Committee of the Red Cross is providing emergency assistance, including access to safe water, food, medical assistance and shelter materials. The International Committee of the Red Cross is also helping reunite families displaced by the conflict, and reminding the parties of the conflict in Ukraine to adhere to international humanitarian law and ensure the protection of the civilian population and detainees.

The devastation of the conflict raging in Ukraine has been vast and humanitarian assistance is urgently needed. In response to these growing needs, the International Committee of the Red Cross has launched an appeal to support its increasing work to which the CEI has decided to respond with a contribution, as a heartfelt sign of support for the people affected during this difficult time in Ukraine, stemming from the CEI’s mission based on the principle of solidarity.

The contribution will be provided from the budget reserves of the CEI – Executive Secretariat and its Cooperation Fund.
