CEI condemns attack on cultural heritage in Lviv

Secretary General Franco Dal Mas strongly condemns the recent drone attack on the historic centre of Lviv, Ukraine, which resulted in damage to civilian buildings, 32 injured persons, and affected areas inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. He expressed his sincere solidarity with those injured and their families, wishing a swift recovery to all those affected.

Such acts represent not only a grave violation of international humanitarian law, but also a direct assault on cultural heritage of universal value. Protecting cultural sites during conflicts is a key commitment under international agreements, including the 1954 Hague Convention.

The Secretary General reaffirmed the CEI's unwavering support for Ukraine, particularly in safeguarding its cultural heritage and identity.

He emphasised that deliberate attacks against cultural landmarks are contrary to the shared values of the international community and called for continued accountability and coordinated international action.

The CEI reaffirms its dedication to fostering dialogue, collaboration and the safeguarding of cultural heritage as fundamental pillars for stability and European integration.
