Secretariat at 2nd Mission for Natural Heritage Institutional Dialogue event in Malaga

In the framework of an EU-funded project TREASURE - Testing novel environmental quality measures in and around euro-med ports - on 29-30 November, the CEI-Executive Secretariat (CEI-ES) attended the 2nd Mission for Natural Heritage Institutional Dialogue event, which was organised in collaboration with the 6th International Marine Science Communication Conference in Malaga.

Day 1 focused on marine and coastal restoration, and the discussion addressed the target set under the EU Nature Restoration Law of 30% of terrestrial, coastal, freshwater, and marine ecosystems in good condition by 2030. Speakers presented the policy context and some examples of adoption of the restoration agenda in the Mediterranean. Room for discussion was offered to projects presenting tangible actions and financial opportunities to reach the 2030 goals.

Day 2 was dedicated to capacity-building where participants had the chance to attend a training session on policy science interface, during which several questions were raised and a new critical approach to green growth and circular economy was stimulated.

During the working groups and marketplace sessions the CEI-ES had a 2-hour slot to: discover all thematic projects under the Natural Heritage Mission and present TREASURE; identify potential synergies and opportunities for collaboration, and link up as a community. The ultimate goal was to invite people to explore those same aspects of interest across projects, making sure they contribute to strengthening and amplifying each project’s work.
