Italy helps modernise honey production in Serbia through CEI Fund at the EBRD

In Kragujevac, Serbia, the long-standing tradition of beekeeping is transforming into a model of sustainability and innovation through the efforts of Sanum per Fructus. Known for producing 100% natural honey, the company has expanded its reach beyond Serbia to markets across Europe and the world. This success has been bolstered by funding provided by Italy, through the CEI Fund at the EBRD together with the EU, Luxembourg, and Sweden in the framework of the “EBRD Youth in Business Programme”. This Programme helps SMEs  - owned or managed by youth  - access know-how, business expertise, financing and other critical resources to surmount their challenges and unleash their full potential.

In particular, Sanum per Fructus, founded by Vladimir Milanović, has used this support to combine tradition with modern approaches, driven by a young and dynamic team. The company has embraced digital technology, introducing a mobile application that connects local honey producers directly with their operations. This innovation enhances efficiency, reduces errors, and promotes sustainable practices in honey production; It therefore ensures quality by working closely with local beekeepers, testing honey on-site to meet rigorous standards. And local producers are playing a vital role in maintaining the integrity of the product.

This initiative reflects the CEI’s dedication to fostering innovation, supporting young entrepreneurs, and promoting sustainable economic growth in Central and Eastern Europe. By advancing both environmental and economic goals, 'Sanum per Fructus' is setting a new standard for honey production while preserving a vital natural resource for future generations.
