NAMIRS Project at COP23: Concrete Actions for a Sustainable Mediterranean

The 23rd Meeting of the Contracting Parties to the Barcelona Convention and its Protocols (COP 23) is making waves as the CEI - Executive Secretariat (CEI-ES) takes the spotlight with its contributions towards a prosperous, sustainable and safer Mediterranean.

With a central theme of "Moving from plans and programmes to concrete actions," COP 23 is focused on translating intentions into tangible and concrete results. The CEI-ES seized the opportunity to showcase its dedication to combating marine pollution by presenting the results of its NAMIRS project during a side event on marine litter. The Organisation's involvement in the panel discussion, led by ACCOBAMS (Agreement on the Conservation of Cetaceans of the Black Sea, Mediterranean Sea and contiguous Atlantic area), highlighted their commitment to finding practical solutions to environmental challenges.

Beyond its comprehensive presentation, the CEI-ES also established valuable partnerships with key stakeholders. Collaboration with esteemed organisations such as ACCOBAMS and the UN Environmental Programme Mediterranean Action Plan (UNEP-MAP) further solidified the CEI-ES's position as a driving force in preserving our precious environment and ensure the long-term well-being of this vital ecosystem.
