On 26 May 2026, the award ceremony of the "Viva Marga – Margherita Hack e la Luna" school competition was held in the representative hall of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region in Trieste ringing together around 1,000 students and 70 teachers from 28 schools in Trieste, Gorizia, Florence, and other Adriatic and Balkan cities where Italian is taught alongside institutional representatives from Italy, Croatia, Albania, and the broader Adriatic and Balkan regions.
The project as a whole fosters education, scientific outreach and equal opportunities among youth, as well as values such as overcoming boundaries and cultural barriers, cooperation and the culture of peace.
Prizes were awarded in four categories: Trieste, Gorizia, Florence, and Estero. In the international section, students from the Italian Middle and High School "Antonio Borme" in Rovinj, led by teacher Virna Dalino Polo, won first place with their entry "Margherita Hack e il colloquio lunare." Second prize was awarded to students from the Gymnasium "28 Nëntori" in Shkodër, Albania. A video summary of the event is available here.
Promoted by the Italian cultural voluntary association Radici & Futuro, and organised in cooperation with leading scientific institutions including INAF and SISSA, the project aims to acquaint young people with STEM/STEAM subjects on the one hand, and with the values of cross-border cooperation within the GO!2025 Nova Gorica–Gorizia context on the other.
