Meeting of CEI PD Parliamentary Committee in Bucharest for a more connected and inclusive region

The Parliamentary Committee of the CEI Parliamentary Dimension convened in Bucharest on 26-27 May 2026, at the Senate of Romania, bringing together representatives of CEI Member States’ parliaments to discuss infrastructure and digital connectivity as strategic drivers for economic cohesion and European integration. Parliamentary delegations actively contributed to the debate sharing views on the themeEnhancing Regional Cooperation and Connectivity for Sustainable Growth in the CEI Region”, focusing on the role of local authorities and younger generations in fostering a more connected, inclusive and cohesive region.

The meeting was opened by Rozália-Ibolya Biró, President of the CEI Parliamentary Dimension, together with the President of the Senate of Romania, Mircea Abrudean, the Romanian State Secretary for European Affairs, Clara Staicu, and Secretary General, Franco Dal Mas.

In his remarks, Dal Mas recalled the key messages emerging from the international conference held in Trieste on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the CEI - Executive Secretariat, reiterating support for the reunification of Europe and the need to accelerate the European integration process:

“Starting from the Western Balkans, within a broader vision that also embraces Ukraine and Moldova, every step towards European integration is a step towards stability, prosperity and peace across our continent. This is not merely a foreign policy objective; it is a shared political and strategic project lying at the very heart of the CEI’s mission and identity,” stated Dal Mas, referring to the vision promoted by Italy’s Foreign Minister, Antonio Tajani, who strongly considers the EU enlargement as a “true reunification of Europe”.

Keynote speeches on the agenda topics were delivered Romaninan governmental and parliamentary representatives. A representative eof the BSEC Parliamentary Assembly also contributed to the debate. 

A highlight of the gathering was the opportunity given to a group of university students who had the chance not only to attend the sessions but also ask questions.

The meeting reaffirmed the role of the CEI Parliamentary Dimension as a privileged platform for dialogue and parliamentary exchange at a time when the international context requires strengthened and shared political commitment.
