CEI participates in UNGA High-level week

A CEI-ES delegation headed by SG Roberto Antonione participated in the UN General Assembly (UNGA) High-level week that took place in New York from 19 to 26 September 2022.

Firstly, they took part in the Education Summit 2022 on 19 September, which focused on the world-wide crisis in education and its impacts. The importance of elevating education to the top of the global political agenda was pointed out, especially to seek solutions to recover from pandemic-related learning loss and to transform educational methods and adapt them to the rapidly changing world. 

Then, they participated in the general debate of the 77th Session of the UNGA , where inspiring statements were made and fruitful debates on the current geopolitical situation took place; global responsibility to current challenges was invoked.

On 21 September, on the eve of the Informal Meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the CEI, a bilateral meeting was held with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria. The discussion focused on the upcoming initiatives within the Bulgarian Presidency until the end of the year and the future challenges for the CEI.

At the Informal Meeting of the Foreign Ministers held on 22 September, insightful discussions focused on support to Ukraine, energy and food security, the CEI’s role in the European enlargement process and increased funds for CEI cooperation.
