On 23 November 2020 the UN General Assembly, recalling its resolution 66/111 of 9 December 2011, by which it granted observer status to the CEI, adopted the resolution on “Cooperation between the United Nations and the Central European Initiative”. Montenegro’s Ambassador to the United Nations Milica Pejanović-Đurišić in the capacity of CEI Presidency for 2020, introduced the resolution on behalf of the CEI.
The resolution - accepted among others promoting cooperation with regional groups - stresses the important role the CEI plays as a promoter of political dialogue and as a flexible and pragmatic platform for regional cooperation, supporting peace, stability, security and the economic progress of its Member States, good-neighbourly relations also through the implementation of tangible projects and programmes.
Moreover, it welcomes the cooperation established between the Initiative and the World Health Organization Regional Office for Europe, through the establishment of the joint Task Force in response to the COVID-19 emergency in the CEI region with the support of the Montenegrin CEI Presidency. The UN encouraged the specialised agencies and other organisations to establish cooperation with the CEI through common action aimed at achieving shared goals.
