Inter-Connect: signing of MoU for Promotion of services examined within case study on Trieste

Start date
Location
Trieste (Italy)

On 16 December 2019, the CEI – Executive Secretariat (CEI-ES) together with the Autonomous Region Friuli Venezia Giulia (FVG),  Trieste Trasporti,  Liberty Lines and the Municipalities of Trieste, Muggia and Koper will sign the Memorandum of Understanding for the Promotion of the services examined within the Inter-Connect case study on Trieste.

The case study, developed by the CEI-ES, looked at the existing cross-border maritime service and at how to enhance its accessibility and (landside) interconnection with public transport services (SUB CASE A) as well as on the potential development of a new maritime service linking Trieste to Muggia and Koper (SUB CASE B).

On the occasion of three roundtables hosted by the CEI-ES on 14 November 2018, 24 May 2019 and 04 November 2019, key stakeholders representing the FVG Region, the Municipalities of Muggia, Trieste and Koper, private and public transport operators as well as representatives from the European Groups of Territorial Cooperation, identified, discussed and adopted the measures to implement in the case study.

The importance of the implementation of the Sub-case B that regards the maritime connection of Trieste – Muggia - Koper has been also mentioned during the bilateral meeting of the FVG Region with the Slovenian vice Premier and the Minister of Foreign Affairs in Koper on 20 November.

The signature of the MoU is, therefore, a strong sign of the commitment of the above-mentioned stakeholders to further support the development of a smooth sustainable cross-border accessibility as addressed by the Inter-Connect case studies and endorse the measures identified.
