CEI Parliamentary Assembly in Tirana adopts Final Declaration emphasising need for strengthened regional cooperation for European Integration

Parliamentary Delegations from the CEI Member States attended the Parliamentary Assembly meeting of the CEI Parliamentary Dimension held in Tirana on 1 October 2024 under the Albanian CEI Presidency.

The meeting, chaired by Etjen Xhafaj, Chairman of the Albanian Parliamentary Delegation to the CEI Parliamentary Dimension, focused on the theme “Strengthening regional cooperation as a fundamental factor for European integration”. Delegations actively contributed to the debate sharing views on the need for enhanced regional cooperation to address global challenges and ensure a sustainable future.

Opening remarks were delivered by Elisa Spiropali, Speaker of the Parliament of Albania, Endrit Yzeiraj, Albania’s Deputy Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, and Silvio Gonzato, EU Ambassador to Albania.

CEI Deputy Secretary General Zsuzsanna Kiraly emphasized that regional cooperation was vital for EU Integration and stability. She especially called for a strengthened commitment towards collaboration and EU enlargement as a means of security.

The meeting concluded with the adoption of a Joint Final Declaration of the CEI Parliamentary Assembly. Key recommendations included fostering dialogue among CEI member states to promote peace and stability, boosting economic development through joint investments and infrastructure projects, and supporting the EU enlargement process with a focus on regional cooperation, human rights, and the rule of law. The declaration also calls for stronger cultural, educational, and youth initiatives to enhance regional ties, and encouraged investment in research and innovation to drive economic growth.

Prior to the plenary session, the new Chairpersons and Co-chairpersons of the three General Committees on Political Affairs, Economic Affairs and Cultural Affairs, were elected.
