The International Conference “Tourism in the Eastern and Southeastern Europe – New paths of development” was held in Tirana on 27 September 2024 in the framework of the Albanian CEI Presidency and the Chairmanship of the South-East European Cooperation Process - SEECP.
Organised by the Albanian National Tourism Agenda, the gathering was opened by Mirela Kumbaro, Minister of Environment and Tourism of the Republic of Albania. She underlined that the conference taking place on World Tourism Day, this year celebrated under the theme "Tourism and Peace", was an opportunity to discuss the challenges and solutions for the future of tourism in the region, thus making it a unitary attraction through combined tourist offers.
The event aimed at bringing together representatives of institutions dealing with the tourism sector in the CEI countries to share knowledge and experiences from the CEI region, thus to provide a discussion platform on issues of common interest in this sector.
The main topics of discussion during the conference included promoting tourism through innovative tools and best practices; improving sector standards and resource management by aligning educational programmes with industry demands; and exploring the expansion of tourism beyond traditional offerings. This latter included a focus on interdisciplinary approaches to enhance the economic impact of the tourism sector in the Region.
