Parliamentary Delegations from the CEI Member States attended the Parliamentary Assembly meeting held on 27 November 2023 in Chisinau under the Presidency of the Republic of Moldova.
Opening speeches were delivered by Mihail Popşoi, Deputy President of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova; Igor Chiriac, President Ad Interim of the CEI PD and member of the Moldovan Delegation to the CEI PD; Roberto Antonione, CEI Secretary General. Erika Hasznos, Deputy Head of the EU Delegation to the Republic of Moldova, Vladimir Cuc, State Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, and Radu Marian, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Economy, Budget and Finance, also attended the meeting as keynote speakers.
Under the topic “Supporting European integration and promoting sustainable development of the CEI region”, the participants highlighted the role of the CEI as an effective forum of regional cooperation combining multilateral diplomacy and project management. They especially underlined the need to provide the Organisation with further political impetus in view of encouraging a renewed multilateral approach throughout the CEI region. To this aim, the Parliamentary Assembly took into consideration that a Convention for the strengthening of the CEI is in its preparatory phase, in line with the outcomes of the CEI Trieste Platform.
“Strengthening the CEI, the largest intergovernmental forum for regional cooperation in Europe, means making the voice of Central and Eastern European countries more identified and louder at EU and at global level” the CEI Secretary General emphasised.
Prior to the plenary session, the new Chairpersons and Co-chairpersons of the three General Committees on Political Affairs, Economic Affairs and Cultural Affairs, were elected.
