Supporting Sarajevo’s urban transport

Promoting flourishing Green Growth is a strategic focus of the CEI’s agenda. Through the CEI Fund at the EBRD financed by Italy, the CEI is funding a Technical Cooperation Project aimed at improving Sarajevo’s urban transport with a grant of 500,000 EUR.

The project is part of the EBRD’s Green Cities  Programme aimed at supporting cities in identifying and planning priority projects that can help them become greener and more sustainable.

Investing in public transport infrastructure is a priority for Sarajevo in order to tackle its alarming air pollution and improve the standard of living in the capital city of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Project is addressing key challenges in Sarajevo’s public transport infrastructure by improving access to cleaner urban transport as well as the capacity and efficiency of the overall public transport.

The technical assistance provided by the CEI Fund will facilitate the timely and effective acquisition and implementation of an adaptive traffic management system, including the construction of a traffic management centre, and the acquisition of up to 5 new trams in Sarajevo.
