The 2026 edition of OBERMUN officially opened at the Teatro Rossetti in Trieste on April 17, 2026.
OBERMUN (Oberdan Model United Nations) is a prestigious academic simulation of the United Nations organized by the Liceo Scientifico Statale "Guglielmo Oberdan." The event gathers hundreds of international students to act as diplomats, debating global issues, drafting resolutions, and practicing the art of negotiation in English.
The CEI has been proudly supporting the initiative for several years highlighting the event's importance in fostering regional cooperation and youth leadership across Europe.
In her opening speech, Deputy Secretary General Zsuzsanna Kiraly underlined that the CEI, as an Organisation dedicated to regional cooperation across 17 member states, sees Model UN not only as a mere simulation, but as a vital laboratory for the skills our world needs: empathy and critical thinking. "We live in a time defined by complexity," she added. "Whether we are discussing the European integration, addressing climate resilience, or navigating the rapid shifts in technology, one thing remains clear: no nation can face these challenges in isolation. In Central and Eastern Europe, we know better than anyone that our strength lies in our connectivity and our willingness to listen across borders", she said.
The ceremony concluded with a call to the young delegates to foster a spirit of cooperation as they embark on their journey of diplomacy and international collaboration.
