With the support of the CEI and under the CEI Romanian Presidency, representatives from customs administrations, border police and transport ministries from across the CEI region gathered in Chisinau for a study visit to the Albita-Leuseni border crossing point between Romania and Moldova.
Organised in the framework of a Transport Community (TCT) and Central European Free Trade Agreement (CEFTA) meeting on connectivity and border crossing facilitation, the initiative offered a concrete platform for knowledge exchange, showcasing best practices in coordinated border control between an EU Member State and a non-EU country.
On-site sessions focused on models of inter-agency coordination, Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) facilitation measures, risk management procedures, and solidarity lanes drawing on the experience of Romania and Moldova.
The initiative also provided an opportunity to reflect on the practical implementation of EU border management standards, and their relevance for Western Balkan partners as they deepen integration with the EU.
The activity builds on the CEI's long-standing cooperation on transport facilitation with the TCT and is fully aligned with Romania's 2026 CEI Presidency priorities.
