On 28 - 30 October 2025 the CEI – Executive Secretariat participated in the 75th session of the WHO Regional Committee for Europe (RC75), in Copenhagen together with ministers, senior officials and partners.
During the three-day Regional Committee Member States were invited to endorse the WHO Second European Programme of Work 2026-2030, grounded in health security, climate change, noncommunicable diseases, mental health and ageing well, in order to tackle priority health challenges through strategies affecting life opportunities from infancy to adulthood, keeping an eye on innovation.
Discussions highlighted areas where regional cooperation is an added value, such as investing in primary healthcare and core public health functions, using digital tools to support continuity of care and surveillance, and reinforcing the healthcare workforce through training and retention measures.
In this context, DSG Pejović pointed to the complementarity between national priorities and CEI instruments, such as knowledge sharing, capacity building, and multi-stakeholder dialogue, which help partners to adopt and scale up effective models.
She emphasised that:
“The CEI firmly believes in the importance of the consolidated collaboration between our two organisations with the objective of ensuring universal access to health services, since health is a fundamental human right.
Under this guiding principle, the CEI is fully committed to applying a multilateral and multistakeholder approach to foster better health and well-being in its Member States. supporting them in building stronger and resilient health-care systems, improving the quality of the related services, enhancing education, deployment and performance of health workforce, guaranteeing access to medicines, with particular attention to the vulnerable population.”
Building on the long-standing collaboration between the CEI and the WHO Regional Office for Europe - launched in 2020 to promote exchanges among health authorities, academia and civil society, with a focus on on health security, emergency preparedness, healthy ageing, and integrated care - the CEI will continue to work with the WHO Regional Office for Europe and national counterparts to strengthen health systems, improve access to medicines, and advance public health education.
