The symposium “Science @ CERIC 2024 - Celebrating 10 Years of Scientific Excellence” was successfully held in Lecce on 16-17 October. Organised by the European Research Infrastructure Consortium (CERIC-ERIC), a long-lasting CEI partner, the event marked a decade of CERIC’s contributions to advancing scientific research and collaboration.
CERIC-ERIC provides a unique access point for researchers, facilitating joint research and development projects and offering some of the most advanced investigation techniques available in Europe. The focus lies on materials science, biomaterials, and nanotechnology, with particular attention to energy and life sciences.
The symposium served as a platform for directors and researchers from various CERIC facilities to come together, enhancing interaction among stakeholders regarding ongoing activities, shared research themes, outcomes, and future development plans. This year’s featured over 20 researchers who have utilised the consortium’s facilities since its inception in 2014 for groundbreaking research with significant scientific impact. Additionally, 15 PhD candidates, whose scholarships have been supported by CERIC, presented their research through posters. Topics ranged from advanced materials and energy to cultural heritage conservation, genomics, and medicine.
The event provided an important opportunity to reflect on CERIC’s impact on the scientific community and the consortium’s strategy for increasing its influence on the international scientific stage in the years to come.
The CEI’s main mission promoting European integration and sustainable development through regional cooperation played a useful role in CERIC’s establishment, the first European Research Infrastructure Consortium (ERIC) dedicated to supporting the scientific growth of Central and Eastern Europe and the first based in Italy.
