KEP ITALY: Kick-off meeting of project promoting capacity building and knowledge transfer in waste management

The project “Capacity building and transfer of knowledge for increasing and improving professional skills in waste management in the Region of Vinnytsia” started its operations with a kick-off meeting in Vinnytsia, Ukraine on 2 March.
 
Representatives from the State Administration of Vinnytsia Region, the Regional Council and EkoVin (the public company in charge of waste management for the city of Vinnytsia) - the project beneficiaries - participated in the event together with the Italian project partners, Contarina Spa, Forma.azione and Agence.
 
The main aim of the project is to improve Vinnytsia Region waste management policy and practices, by aligning them with the European standards and reducing costs related to waste management, by improving existing disposal strategies’. In particular, the project intends to strengthen the administrative structures at regional and local levels as well as facilitate the process of harmonisation of the Ukrainian national policies on waste management according to the EU directives.
 
At the meeting, the participants discussed the key activities of the project as well as its impact and benefits. The partners pointed out that the project implementation would take place simultaneously with the extension of the waste management plan for the entire region. They also agreed upon the dates of the next events, namely the project seminar on 19-20 April 2016 in Vinnytsia and the training sessions on 28-29 June in Vinnytsia.
 
The project is co-financed in the framework of the CEI Know-How Exchange Programme (KEP Italy), sponsored by the CEI Fund at the EBRD entirely financed by Italy. The CEI grant amounts to 39,755 EUR out of a total project cost of 79,714 EUR.
