Capacity-building initiative strengthens civil society and good governance in the Western Balkans

A regional capacity-building and networking initiative focusing on civil society and good governance was held in Belgrade, Serbia, from 25 to 27 March 2025. The event brought together representatives of civil society organisations, local authorities, institutional stakeholders and experts from across the Western Balkans and beyond, with the aim of supporting democratic reform and European integration processes.

Organised by ALDA Western Balkans, the three-day programme combined training sessions, thematic workshops and a public panel discussion. Participants focused on enhancing project implementation skills, fostering cross-border cooperation and strengthening the role of civil society and local authorities in participatory governance.

The initiative addressed key thematic areas, including project cycle management, communication and visibility, youth engagement, environmental sustainability and citizen participation, with particular attention to inclusive and gender-sensitive approaches.  The discussions highlighted the importance of strong institutional capacity, transparent governance and multi-level cooperation for democratic stability and European integration.

In this context, the CEI reaffirmed its role in promoting good governance and institutional development through regional cooperation and partnerships.
