Regional connectivity and European integration at centre of talks between Dal Mas and Neculăescu

Improving connections across the region to bring people, communities and economies closer together and support European integration was the focus of the meeting between Secretary General Franco Dal Mas and Romanian Foreign Minister Dan Neculăescu in Bucharest on 5 November 2026.

The gathering took place ahead of the CEI Meeting of Foreign Ministers, scheduled for tomorrow in Bucharest.

The Minister highlighted how difficulties in travelling between even geographically close countries demonstrate the need to invest in connectivity. He stressed that better transport links must go hand in hand with greater mutual understanding and closer cooperation, acknowledging the CEI’s contribution as a platform for dialogue and joint action in support of European integration.

Dal Mas congratulated the Minister on his recent appointment and thanked the Romanian Presidency for its commitment throughout the year. Neculăescu expressed appreciation for the work of the Secretary General and the CEI Executive Secretariat.

The discussion also looked ahead to the handover of the CEI Presidency to Ukraine in 2027 and the importance of sustained regional support.
