Secretary General Dal Mas in Budapest: meeting with Hungarian Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Security Policy, and Energy Security, Péter Sztáray

Following his meetings in Belgrade and Bratislava, Secretary General Franco Dal Mas continued his international tour to the CEI Member States with a visit to Budapest where he held a constructive meeting with Péter Sztáray, Hungary’s Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Security Policy, and Energy Security.

Discussions focused on key topics on the CEI agenda, including the promotion of European integration, regional cooperation, the situation in Ukraine, sustainable development, and the strengthening of the CEI.

SG Dal Mas reaffirmed the CEI’s commitment to supporting the EU accession process, starting with the countries of the Western Balkans, and to continuing supporting Ukraine, particularly through greater involvement in the Organisation's work. He also emphasised the importance of implementing concrete initiatives within the CEI framework in areas such as connectivity and legal diplomacy.

Moreover, Dal Mas expressed his satisfaction with Hungary’s long-standing involvement in the Initiative, noting that, alongside Italy, Hungary was one of its founding members, established in Budapest in 1989. He also acknowledged Hungary’s contribution to the Cooperation Fund and the work of the Executive Secretariat.

Secretary Sztáray stressed Hungary’s traditional commitment to the CEI and its future efforts to strengthen the CEI’s role.

Secretary General Dal Mas also met with Imre Vejkey, Chairman of the Justice Committee in Parliament and a member of the Hungarian Delegation to the CEI Parliamentary Assembly.

In highlighting the growing collaboration between the Governmental and Parliamentary Dimensions, especially during the Convention for Strengthening the CEI, the SG underscored the importance of this cooperation in enhancing the Organisation’s role.

By working closely with member countries in a spirit of consistency and mutual support, the CEI will be able to strengthen its efforts and successfully continue its political mission, Dal Mas stated.
