On 11 February, CEI Secretary General Franco Dal Mas took part in a coordination meeting at the Rectorate of the University of Udine, focused on the goal of making the Friuli Venezia Giulia Autonomous Region (FVG) a model of resilience for Europe.
The SG Dal Mas, attended the event alongside the Vice President of the FVG Region with a mandate for Civil Protection, Riccardo Riccardi, the Rector of the University of Udine, Roberto Pinton, the Pro-Rector Andrea Cafarelli, and other representatives from the University and regional Civil Protection.
The upcoming 50th anniversary of the devastating Friuli earthquake served as the starting point for consolidating a synergy between the projects developed by the University of Udine, with ResiliEnhance standing out. The project was conceived by the UNESCO Chair in Intersectoral Safety for Disaster Risk Reduction and Resilience, in collaboration with the CEI and the FVG.
The project has proven to be one of the key tools to achieve the goal of making the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region a reference point for resilience in Europe. Its objectives include integrated planning for climate resilience and the reduction of systemic risks, while promoting cooperation between local, regional, and international stakeholders.
The meeting highlighted the significant progress of ResiliEnhance, emphasising improvements in territorial governance thanks to synergy with the regional Civil Protection. Dal Mas stressed how the project, involving eight CEI countries, could serve as a resilience model for the whole area, with a particular focus on the Balkan region.
The importance of training was emphasised as a crucial tool for preventing and managing systemic crises, with the proposal to create an Advanced Training School, initially intended for territorial decision-makers, but to extend it internationally.
The meeting showcased the strong collaboration between the CEI, the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, and the University of Udine, with the goal of reinforcing the region’s role as an example of resilience, capitalising on the numerous initiatives already underway, and promoting Friuli Venezia Giulia as a model for Europe.
