The 13th edition of the Young Bled Strategic Forum (YBSF) took place in Pokljuka, Slovenia from 20 August 30 - 1 September, 2024, gathering 42 young leaders from 30 countries. Representing a wide range of backgrounds, journalists, researchers, NGO workers, diplomats, students, activists, and politicians, participants came together to explore the theme “Restoring Common Ground.” This theme was inspired by the broader Bled Strategic Forum (BSF) theme, "A World of Parallel Realities." The YBSF aimed to address the growing divergence in global realities and to find ways to bridge these divides for positive social action.
The conference featured a participant-driven programme with workshops and in-depth discussions on issues such as the changing political attitudes of Generation Z, leveraging cultural heritage to foster unity, and understanding the vulnerability of audiences to disinformation. These activities, designed to be interactive and collaborative, encouraged participants to share their experiences, engage with experts, and work together to develop solutions to pressing global challenges.
YBSF participants were also given priority to comment or ask questions during the Q&A sessions of the Bled Strategic Forum, ensuring their voices were heard at the larger event. In addition to workshops, the forum provided a platform for meaningful exchanges through conversations with thought leaders on topics such as the rise of the far-right, the role of social media, and sustainable cohabitation.
This year’s forum allowed young leaders to contribute directly to the ongoing discussions at the BSF, with YBSF participants speaking as experts during panel discussions and many more actively participating in the event’s conversations. For the first time, YBSF also organised “powered discussions” at the BSF, such as “Truth and Forgiveness,” and "We Dare to Make a Change," which explored the aspirations of young public officials in the Western Balkans.
The forum created lasting networks and expanded the YBSF alumni base, ensuring continued engagement and collaboration in future editions. The 2024 event was a success in amplifying youth voices in global conversations and will help shape the upcoming 2025 edition.
