15 dead, 24 survivors in Chios: Greek Coast Guard

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, FEB 4 - A boat carrying migrants collided with a Hellenic Coast Guard patrol boat off the island of Chios in the eastern Aegean last night, killing 15 people and injuring 24 others, according to a statement from the Hellenic Coast Guard. The speedboat carrying the migrants allegedly "did not obey the patrol boat's light and sound signals, but instead reversed course and struck the patrol boat's starboard side" after being spotted by a Coast Guard vessel. All of the passengers fell into the sea as the speedboat capsized and sank due to the force of the impact, according to the statement. (ANSA).
