New KEP project approved: support for migration policy planning in North Macedonia

The Know-how Exchange Programme (KEP) project North Macedonia: Advisory Support for Strengthening the Capacities for Diaspora Engagement and Evidence-based Migration Policy Planning was formally approved at the last Committee of National Coordinators meeting in Trieste on 11 May.

The 12-month activity - starting in June and implemented by the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) in North Macedonia, a CEI partner since 2016 - aims at contributing to enhancing the engagement of the diaspora in the socio-economic development of the country, as well as the data collection and analysis for developing evidence-based and coordinated migration policies in line with international and EU standards and best practices. Project actions will also include the organisation of capacity-building training as well as the provision of technical assistance and support on migration topics.

It will focus, in particular, on strengthening inter-institutional cooperation by reinforcing the capacities of Government officials engaged in the sector involving the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Labour and Social Policy, the Ministry of Interior, the Cabinet of the Minister for Diaspora, the State Statistical Office, the National Bank, and the Office of the Prime Minister.

The engagement of the North Macedonian diaspora in Italy in order to support the socio-economic development of North Macedonia as well as know-how transfer through skill matching is also envisaged.

This project is supported by the CEI Fund at the EBRD, financed by Italy, with a total amount of 40,000 EUR.
