CEI Business Forum on energy efficient and ecological technologies held in Minsk

About 200 representatives of state organisations, business community and academia from the CEI countries as well as international financial organisations gathered in Minsk on 4 December to attend the CEI Business Forum held in the framework of the CEI Belarusian Presidency.

The event was organised by the State Committee on Standardization, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, the National Centre for Marketing and Price Study and the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The meeting focused on the presentation of modern energy efficient and environmentally-friendly technologies to achieve sustainable social and economic development in the CEI region. The programme included a plenary session and a number of thematic sections: Energy Efficient Technologies, Economics and Finance, Science, Ecological Technologies, Energy Efficient Production and Products.

In his welcome speech, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Oleg Kravchenko stressed that the event was particularly important for the CEI since a business dimension was added to the political dimension of the organization. “We are talking not only about initial contacts between companies and businesses of different countries but also about a more advanced form of cooperation. Within the framework of the Business Forum representatives of companies from a number of countries could discuss the assimilation, usage, and development of new energy-effective and ecological technologies” explained Kravchenko.

The Chairman of the State Standardization Committee of Belarus, Viktor Nazarenko, underlined the importance  - especially for the private sector -  of investing in the creation of new technologies, new types of equipment, and energy-saving products, including process equipment and consumer-end products. “Things that save energy and generate profit for individual companies and consumers are in demand today” he added.

The CEI Business Dimension, together with the Governmental Dimension and the Parliamentary Dimension, represents one of the three main pillars of the Organisation.
