On 18 May 2017, the results achieved by the KEP ITALY project "Development of a training program on management of disaster prevention, preparedness and rapid response" were presented in Montenegro.
The assignment is co-financed by the CEI Know-how Exchange Programme (KEP) through the CEI Fund at the EBRD, sponsored by Italy. Specifically, Luca Rosi, Head of the International Affairs Unit at the Italian Istituto Superiore di Sanità (ISS) and Scientific Director of the project, met with H.E. Vincenzo del Monaco, Italian Ambassador in Podgorica. On the following day, project results were presented at the Round Table hosted by the Director of the Institute of Public Health of Montenegro, Dr. Boban Mugosa.
During the gathering, the possibility of broadening the project to all Western Balkan Countries was explored. This could be possible thanks to ISS bilateral agreements in the field of public health and complex emergencies management. Rosi clearly stated that institutional cooperation was of foremost importance, especially in managing emergencies and new strategies in the education process.
The participants were the Director of the Serbian Institute of Public Health of Novi Sad and Nis, the Dean of the University of Kragujevac in Serbia, World Health Organisation and Red Cross Representatives and the Head of the Country Office, the Director of the European Center for Peace and Development and high Representatives of the Ministry of Health in Montenegro.
In October 2017, the International Association of National Public Health Institutes (IANPHI) will be held at the ISS headquarters in Rome. In that framework, the CEI Cooperation Fund will sponsor a Balkan Regional Meeting, where the Institute of Public Health Representatives from the Western Balkans and European Union Countries will prepare a framework document and a joint declaration of intent for regional cooperation.
