On 24-25th May the international conference entitled “Overcoming borders and barriers in palliative care will take place in Trieste, as part of the celebrations for the 100° anniversary of the University of Trieste.

The event is organised by the Italian association for palliative care in cooperation (SICP) with the University of Trieste and Central European Initiative Executive Secretariat. Technical support and expertise were also provided by the WHO Europe.

The meeting wants to strengthen collaboration between the Alpe Adria Region and Western Balkans, ensuring the exchange of knowledge in a logic of implementation of palliative care services. In particular the event will focus on palliative care networks and models of care, education for health care providers and research, update on pain and symptom treatment and palliative care essential medicines.

The event will allow the exchange of experiences at national level, building and promotion of cooperation networks and identification of best clinical practice, with particular focus on opioid and essential palliative care drugs availability and use.
