Pentagon reduces brigades in Europe from four to three

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, MAY 20 - According to a statement, the Pentagon plans to reduce the number of US troop brigades in Europe from four to three. The Pentagon "reduced the total number of Brigade Combat Teams (BCTs) assigned to Europe from four to three." This restores their levels in Europe to 2021 levels. The statement reads further, "The decision is the result of a comprehensive, multi-layered process aimed at positioning US forces in Europe. This causes a temporary delay in the deployment of US forces to Poland, which is a model ally for the US. Secretary of Defence Pete Hegseth "conferred today with Polish Deputy Prime Minister Kosiniak-Kamysz; the Department will remain in close contact with Polish counterparts as the review progresses, including to ensure the US maintains a strong military presence in Poland." Warsaw "has demonstrated both the ability and determination to defend itself autonomously." Other NATO allies ought to follow suit. "The Department will provide additional information at the appropriate time and forum," the statement concludes. (ANSA).
