648 arrests since reintroducing controls at the Italy-Slovenia border: Piantedosi

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, MAY 19 - "648 people have been arrested since controls were reintroduced at the Italy-Slovenia border, including 277 for aiding and abetting illegal immigration. In addition, nearly 1.5 million people have been identified, 700,000 vehicles have been inspected, and 11,000 illegal immigrants have been located." Matteo Piantedosi, the Interior Minister, stated this in X. "These numbers demonstrate the commitment of law enforcement to ensuring security at our borders and demonstrate the effectiveness of the measures introduced by this government to combat irregular immigration. We intend to continue down this path, extending controls that, as previously stated, will have no impact on cross-border travel or goods trafficking," he added. (ANSA).
