(ANSA) - BELGRADE, MAY 15 - The first of two days of meetings and discussions on "The Risiera di San Sabba trial of 1976, half a century later" begins this morning. A series of in-depth discussions will be held at the University of Trieste. Today's scheduled talks were opened by Professor Mauro Barberis. "This is an almost unique event," he said, "to discuss a trial that has been forgotten for years and, especially in today's world, has symbolic meaning. We are celebrating not only memory, as we have done for many years, but also the roots of our civilization—both Western and contemporary." According to Barberis, remembering events from 50 years ago is "important to ensure we never forget, especially for young people." For those of our generation, it is already memorable, but for today's youth, it is critical to tell the story and remember." The two-day event is part of a series of initiatives commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Risiera di San Sabba trial, with the Municipality of Trieste, the Region, and the university itself as promoters.
