German services PMI drops to its lowest level since November 2022

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, MAY 6 - In April, the S&P Services PMI for Germany fell to its lowest level since November 2022, dropping from 50.9 in March to 46.9, the first time since August last year that it fell below the 50 threshold that distinguishes economic expansion from contraction. "The slowdown reflects a further contraction in demand, as businesses have faced rising inflationary pressures and heightened uncertainty due to the ongoing Middle East conflict," S&P said in a statement. According to Phil Smith from S&P Global Market Intelligence, "the chances of the German economy contracting in the second quarter have increased." (ANSA).
