Germany targets Brazil for critical minerals

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, APR 29 - Germany has identified 21 potential strategic mining projects in Brazil that could help secure raw materials for the energy transition and strengthen the country's industrial base. The goal is to secure supplies of minerals like lithium, graphite, rare earths, and silicon, which are essential for batteries, solar panels, and electrolysers. The move is part of a growing global competition for resources, with China dominating the entire supply chain. According to Exios, the GIZ cooperation agency, in collaboration with the German Geological Survey (BGR), is coordinating the initiative, which aims to diversify supplies and reduce dependence on Beijing.
