Slovenian Parliament to be inaugurated tomorrow, possible centre-right majority

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, APR 9 - The Slovenian Parliament will hold its constituent session tomorrow at 11:00 a.m., two weeks after the narrow victory of the Freedom Movement, the centre-left party of outgoing Prime Minister Robert Golob, over the conservative Democratic Party of three-time former PM Janez Janša. Golob has conducted lengthy and so far fruitless informal consultations with all the leaders of the parliamentary parties. Despite losing the election, Janša has the potential to regain prominence. In addition to the ceremonial opening of the new legislature, the first session of the new National Assembly will provide early indications of the potential majority coalition ready to form the next government. The direction of the tenth legislature will be decided by a secret ballot election for the Assembly's president, which requires a majority of 46 votes out of 90 total seats. In recent days, the so-called "third bloc" has consolidated along an axis that includes New Slovenia, Janša's Democrats, and Resni.ca. With 20 MPs, they intend to pave the way for a centre-right coalition alongside the Democratic Party, which has 28 MPs. (ANSA).
