(ANSA) - BELGRADE, MAR 30 - President Frank Walter Steinmeier and Chancellor Friedrich Merz will meet with interim Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa today in Berlin. The meeting will address the issue of Syrian refugees in Germany, who number approximately one million. The controversial visit has mobilised Syrians in Germany, with several protests planned for today. "Germany has been a very reliable partner during the years of fighting Assad. And now we fear that the federal government, like others in Europe, is only concerned with the refugee issue and is talking to the interim government in Damascus rather than with Syrian civil society," said Fahrad Ahma of the PEL Civil Waves association in Qamishli/Raqqa, at a press conference in Berlin.
