Ziberna, with Nova Gorica a city laboratory for all of Europe

(ANSA) - LUBIANA, MAR 26 - "Together with Nova Gorica we want to be a city laboratory for all of Europe." This was stated by the mayor of Gorica, Rodolfo Ziberna, speaking in Ljubljana at Urban Future 2026, an international event dedicated to the challenges of urban life, from sustainable mobility to climate change. In his speech, shared with the mayor of Nova Gorica, Samo Turel, Ziberna reviewed the experience of Go! 2025, emphasizing the transition "from a history of pain to a future of cooperation," with a border increasingly invisible in daily life. "The European Capital of Culture was not just a title, but a transformation: from two cities to a single vision," he pointed out, explaining how the change also came through urban planning. Examples cited included cross-border parks, bike paths connecting Italy and Slovenia, and the redevelopment of Transalpina Square, now a shared space. Ziberna then called out the need to overcome bureaucratic obstacles: "Common rules are needed to make life easier for citizens." Gorizia and Nova Gorica, he reiterated, can become a model for Europe.
