NATO estimates that Italy will spend 2.01% of its GDP on defence in 2025

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, MAR 26 - According to preliminary NATO estimates, Italy will spend 2.01% of its GDP on defence in 2025 (based on 2021 prices). This is based on the Alliance's annual report. All allies are now meeting the 2% target, with some barely meeting it. Belgium was stuck at 1.27% in 2024, but is now at 2.00%. Spain, too, was at 1.42% in 2024 but is now at 2.00%. Albania, Canada, and Portugal are the other allies that spend the bare minimum. In 2024, Italy's rate was 1.52%. Overall, the average for Europe and Canada is now 2.33%, with NATO as a whole at 2.77%. (ANSA).
