Slovenia, PM Golob's party wins election by narrow margin

(ANSA) - TRIESTE, MAR 23 - According to preliminary results from Sunday's general election, PM Robert Golob's party emerged victorious. The Freedom Movement and the opposition Democratic Party (SDS) have the smallest margin ever seen in a Slovenian parliamentary election, making it difficult to form a government, the Slovenian news agency STA reported. Golob's party received 28.62% of the vote, which translates into 29 seats in the 90-member National Assembly, twelve fewer than in the previous election, while the SDS received 27.95%, or 28 seats, one more than four years ago, STA said. After 99.9% of votes were counted, five parties passed the 4% threshold to enter parliament: the joint slate of New Slovenia (NSi), People's Party (SLS), and Focus, which secured nine seats (9.29%), the Social Democrats (SD), with six seats (6.70%), Anže Logar's Democrats, with six seats (6.70%), the joint list of Left and Vesna, and Truth, both of which won five seats (5.58% and 5.53%, respectively). Two seats are reserved for elected representatives from the Hungarian and Italian ethnic minorities. (ANSA).
