Hungary raises alarm over gasoline shortages due to price cap

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, MAR 10 - Industry organisations have warned of the negative consequences of the Orban government's price cap, which was ordered yesterday. Otto Grad, director of the Petroleum Association (MAS), which represents petrol station owners, stated that the government's similar measure in 2021 resulted in a significant fuel shortage at service stations. According to Gabor Egri, president of the independent association of small gas station owners, with government-set prices below international market prices, fuel reserves will last only a few months. "After that, we'll all close," Egri explained. The oil company MOL promises to ensure supplies for everyone in the country, but the lack of Russian oil via the Friendship (Druzhba) pipeline, which is currently closed in Ukraine, is a major concern.
