Rojc (Pd), after Ukraine, stability in the Balkans is vital for Italy

(ANSA) - ROMA, FEB 19 - "The invasion of Ukraine has completely subverted the European balance: if for Europe the stability of the Balkans is important, for Italy it is a vital chapter of the foreign and European political agenda." This was said by European Policy Committee Secretary Tatjana Rojc in her speech at the discussion on "The European Future of the Balkans," sponsored by the Alumni Association of the College of Europe. "The war in Ukraine," Rojc explained, "inevitably leads to a new division drawn between NATO and EU member countries, and countries politically and economically dependent on Russia, with certain candidate countries in a gray area. For the senator, this division is "the new Wall dividing Europe, which is why it is so crucial to include the Western Balkans in the EU." So, "if Serbia were to structurally enter and remain in Russia's sphere of interest," Rojc warned, "it would be a very serious problem not only for the Balkans, but for European security, given the strategic influence in at least part of Bosnia Herzegovina, northern Kosovo, part of Montenegro. Therefore, is the parliamentarian's conclusion, "negotiations with Serbia are crucial." (ANSA).
